June 2022 – present: Freelance reporter for Chicago Sun-Times

I produce daily coverage of Chicago on a part-time basis across a variety of topics.

June 2020 – June 2022: Gun violence reporter for The Kansas City Star

I covered and wrote enterprise and investigative stories on gun violence in Missouri as a part of a three-reporter team with a focus on data analysis, legislation and communities impacted by gun violence, as a 2020 Report for America (RFA) corps member.

June 2019 – May 2020: Agriculture reporter for The Sun-Gazette in California’s San Joaquin Valley

As a 2019 RFA corps member, I wrote enterprise stories on California’s omnipresent agriculture industry, with a focus on the Central Valley. I also copy edited the weekly print edition and contributed to the paper’s podcast.

May 2016 – June 2019: Student researcher at Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE)

I helped members with research, maintained IRE’s archive of investigations and tipsheets and assisted at the organization’s two annual conferences.

January 2019 – May 2019: Copy editor for the Columbia Missourian in Columbia, Mo.

I edited stories for both the website and daily print edition of the paper.

August 2018 – December 2018: Reporting intern for The Center for Responsive Politics in Washington, D.C.

I covered the influences of money in the federal government and elections, like the pervasive force of powerful dark money groups.

May 2018 – August 2018: Watchdog intern for The Oregonian in Portland, Ore.

A part of the paper’s investigations team, I covered issues involving recreational cannabis and questionable state health care.

January 2018 – May 2018: State government reporter for the Columbia Missourian

While covering the statehouse, I reported mainly on (now former) Gov. Eric Greitens and his sex and ethics scandals.

May 2017 – August 2017: News intern for The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa.

I wrote enterprise stories and covered city government issues, including the FBI indictment of the city of Allentown’s mayor and major equipment issues facing the city of Allentown’s fire department.

January 2017 – May 2017: Public life reporter for the Columbia Missourian

I reported and wrote stories on Columbia’s city and county government and community issues, such as a city council election and efforts to improve community-based organizing.

September 2016 – December 2016: Reporter and photographer for the Maneater (University of Missouri’s student-run newsroom)

I wrote about the suspect ways the University of Missouri System uses unregulated supplemental fees to get around state-mandated tuition limits.
